Who am I?
Originally from Charleston, my husband and I followed our careers to the Midlands and, like many others, chose to relocate within District 5 as we began our family. I graduated from the College of Charleston and the Charleston School of Law. I previously owned a small business (a small children’s boutique) and, most recently, served as the President/CEO of the Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce. I have served on several community boards, councils, & committees, am a member of the Rotary Club of Chapin Sunrise and attend Lake Murray Presbyterian Church. I am married to Derrick Hines, an educator who now directs the Teaching Fellows and Teacher Cadet programs for the University of South Carolina’s College of Education. We have two little girls, Harper (7) & Molly (4).
Why am I running?
The ultimate responsibility of a school district is to provide a quality education to every child. I am a mother of two little girls that will graduate from District Five schools one day. I am the wife of an educator, who has given tirelessly to public education in South Carolina. I have been a business community leader who understands the importance of preparing a qualified and career ready workforce. I am a stakeholder who is tired of watching career-school board members manipulate backroom deals and destroy public trust to the detriment of our students and our teachers. I will bring a fresh perspective and common-sense advocacy to District Five to ensure the goal of providing the best education in every school to every child.
